Deposit and payment terms

These terms explain the engagement deposit for legal work provided by Suwanvara Law Firm. Legal services are a professional engagement, not a product. They are separate from any property brokerage service, and you remain free to appoint another adviser at any time.

The sequence — nothing is charged before a letter is accepted

A deposit is only ever requested after these steps, in this order:

  1. You send an enquiry describing what you need.
  2. The firm runs a conflicts and scope check.
  3. The firm issues a written engagement letter setting out the scope, fees, exclusions, disbursements, and refund and termination terms.
  4. You accept the engagement letter.
  5. Only then is a payment link (or bank-transfer instruction) issued for the engagement deposit.
  6. On receipt of the deposit, a receipt is issued and your matter is opened.

What the engagement deposit is

The engagement deposit is an advance toward the firm's professional fees for the scope set out in your engagement letter. The binding fee is the figure quoted in that letter.

The deposit is applied against fees as work is carried out. It is not a payment for a guaranteed outcome — approvals of visas, registrations and transfers rest with the relevant Thai authorities and are discretionary.

The firm does not take custody of purchase funds, escrow, government fees or any third-party disbursement through this site. Government fees, translation, notarisation and legalisation are third-party disbursements, quoted and billed separately.

How you can pay the deposit

The firm prefers low-cost payment methods and offers them first. Where a method carries a processing fee, that is stated so you can choose.

PromptPay, bank, Wise and SWIFT transfers are confirmed by a person: after you transfer, tell us and send your slip, and we reconcile it against the firm's account before issuing a receipt. A card payment confirms automatically.

  1. PromptPay QR — a bank-to-bank transfer within Thailand, with no processing fee. The exact deposit amount is carried in the QR.
  2. Bank transfer to the firm's account — no processing fee.
  3. For payers outside Thailand, a Wise transfer (typically lower cost than a correspondent-bank wire) or an international SWIFT wire, where those details are provided.
  4. Card payment — offered as a convenience and shown last, as it may carry a card processing fee.
  5. An invoice, if you would rather be billed.

Refunds and termination

If the firm is unable to act after conflicts clearance, or the engagement does not proceed, any part of the deposit not applied to work already done or disbursements already incurred is returned.

Either party may terminate the engagement on the terms set out in the engagement letter. On termination, the firm accounts for work done to that point; the balance of the deposit, if any, is returned.

Currency and card-processing costs

Fees are quoted and settled in Thai baht unless the engagement letter states otherwise. Where a card payment is made in another currency, your card issuer's conversion rate and any cross-border fee apply and are outside the firm's control.

Card payments are handled by a third-party payment processor. The firm never sees or stores your card details. A processor fee may apply and, where it does, it is disclosed before you pay.

Tax treatment

The firm's VAT registration status is to be confirmed. Where VAT applies, a tax invoice is issued separately from the deposit receipt.

Any Thai taxes applicable to the firm's professional fees, together with the related tax documentation, are dealt with at final invoicing rather than against the deposit.

Paying a deposit does not, by itself, engage the firm

Paying a deposit does not create a lawyer–client relationship. That relationship begins only when the engagement letter has been accepted and the firm's conflicts clearance is complete. Until then, no advice on your situation should be inferred, and the deposit is held pending those steps.

Tax on our fees

Our VAT registration status is not published here, and whether a payer withholds tax depends on who the payer is. Until that is confirmed with you, our invoices are issued with no VAT and no withholding tax, and they are not tax invoices.

General information, not tax advice. The correct treatment is determined by the firm's own accountant and by the Revenue Department.

  • Legal work is a separate engagement with Suwanvara Law Firm under its own professional fee, never bundled into a brokerage fee. You remain free to appoint another adviser at any time.

  • Engagement follows a conflicts check and a written engagement letter that sets out the scope, the fee and each side's obligations.

  • This page describes services and general information. It is not legal advice on any person's situation.
